$120 · About 60 minutes
Sessions for two people who want to be understood by each other again. Structured, even handed, and focused on the pattern between you rather than who is right.
$200 ongoing, $250 for the first session · Up to 90 minutes
Forward looking sessions about direction, decisions and follow through. Coaching is not therapy: it is for when the goal is clear enough to work towards.

Start to finish
Submit an intake, hear back within 24 to 48 hours, then book a time. No referral, no waiting list, and nothing you have to explain up front.
An individual session is $120 and runs about 60 minutes. A couples session is $200 and runs up to 90 minutes, with the first couples session $250 for a 90 minute intake. Urgent sessions are $150 for individuals and $300 for couples. There is no GST on any of these, because The Listening Room is not registered for GST.
No. You can book directly without a GP referral or a mental health treatment plan. Promise Igba holds a Master of Social Work and is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers, and works with clients who come on their own initiative as well as those referred by someone else.
Not at this stage. Medicare rebates for therapy delivered by a social worker require Accredited Mental Health Social Worker status, which Promise is working toward but does not hold yet. Sessions are private fee for service. If that changes, this page will say so.
Services are privately funded. Medicare rebates are not available. Eligibility for any private health benefit depends entirely on your fund, your policy and the practitioner’s recognised provider status. The Listening Room does not guarantee that a rebate will be available, so obtain written confirmation from your fund before booking.
Sometimes. Whether a young person can consent to their own therapy depends on their capacity to understand what is being proposed rather than on age alone, and Promise assesses that case by case. Where a young person does not have that capacity, a parent or guardian consents. The arrangements for young people are being reviewed with a lawyer before they are finalised, so ask and Promise will tell you where that stands.
No. You need to be physically located in Australia during a session. That is a condition of the practice’s professional indemnity cover, and of Promise being permitted to provide services where you are. Anywhere in Australia is fine, not just Canberra.
Curtin, in Canberra, ACT 2605. Sessions are available in person in Canberra, and online for clients anywhere in Australia.
Yes, anywhere in Australia. Sessions run online as well as in person, and online clients get the same session length and the same rate. Online works for individual therapy, couples therapy and life coaching alike. You will be asked to confirm where you are at the start of each online session, so that help can reach you if something goes wrong.
Promise holds a Master of Social Work and is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Which of those shapes your sessions depends on what you bring rather than a fixed programme.
Therapy works with what is difficult, including things rooted in the past, and is appropriate when something is affecting how you function day to day. Coaching is forward looking and works best when the goal is already reasonably clear and the problem is direction or follow through. If you are not sure which you need, say so in your intake and Promise will tell you honestly.
After you submit an intake you can expect a follow up by your preferred contact method within 24 to 48 hours. Urgent sessions with a 48 hour turnaround may be available, at the urgent session rate.
Yes. Information from your sessions is not shared with anyone without your consent, with one exception: where there is a serious concern about safety. Promise will explain how that limit works before it ever matters.

You submit a short intake, choosing whether you are referring yourself, booking as a couple, or referring someone else. Promise follows up within 24 to 48 hours to discuss next steps and finalise the booking. The first session is about understanding what brought you and agreeing where to start, not diagnosing you.
